If you love adding your own crochet edging to our hemstitched baby muslins, we have a beautiful new fabric option for you.

Introducing our Bamboo & Organic Cotton Muslin – a fine, lightweight muslin with a smooth, traditional appearance, beautiful drape and soft natural feel.

We've chosen this fabric particularly with our customers who loved the flat, polished look of our previous Four-Ply Muslin in mind. While it isn't intended to be an exact replacement – it is a much finer and lighter fabric – it gives you that lovely smooth appearance while bringing some beautiful qualities of its own.

What is Bamboo & Organic Cotton Muslin?

Our new muslin is woven from 70% bamboo viscose and 30% organic cotton and weighs just 100gsm.

It has a fine, open weave that makes it wonderfully lightweight and breathable, with a soft, fluid drape. Rather than the bright optical white of our Bubble Muslin, this fabric is undyed and has a beautiful natural, warm off-white colour.

It's a particularly lovely choice for baby items, where softness, breathability and versatility are so important.

Bubble or Bamboo – Which Should I Choose?

We now have two quite different muslins in our crochet-ready range, so you can choose according to the look and feel you prefer.

Choose Bubble Muslin if you love something soft, puffy and snuggly. It has a gently crinkled texture, more loft and a bright optical-white finish.

Choose Bamboo & Organic Cotton Muslin if you prefer something fine, lightweight and flatter, with a smooth, understated appearance and beautiful drape.

Neither is a lesser version of the other – they're simply two very different styles of muslin.

For customers who particularly loved the neat, polished appearance of our previous Four-Ply Muslin, Bamboo & Organic Cotton is the option we'd recommend trying first.

Prepared Especially for Crocheters

As always, we do the fiddly part so you can get straight to the enjoyable part!

Every piece is individually cut, overlocked and then hemstitched around the entire edge, creating a neat row of tiny holes ready for your crochet hook.

You'll also notice that we've rounded all four corners.

There's a very practical reason for this. Working a crochet border neatly around a sharp 90-degree fabric corner can be frustrating, particularly when trying to keep an edging pattern evenly spaced. The gentle curve gives you a much smoother run around the corner and makes it considerably easier to keep your crochet edging looking even and beautiful.

Five Useful Sizes

We've created five sizes so you can make everything from a quick little crochet project to a beautiful handmade baby gift:

Small 28 × 28 cm – Wash Cloth	Perfect for little faces and hands, bath time and everyday clean-ups.
Medium 45 × 45 cm – Burp Cloth	A useful all-rounder for feeding, burping, washing and general baby care.
Large 70 × 70 cm – Baby Wrap	A versatile size for wrapping, feeding, the pram, changing or as a lightweight baby cloth.
Large Plus 70 × 100 cm – Baby Towel	A generous rectangular size that's lovely for bath time, wrapping and everyday use.
Large Square 100 × 100 cm – Large Swaddle	A beautifully light and breathable larger wrap for swaddling and cuddling, with plenty of room for a gorgeous crochet border.

A Note About the First Wash

Our Bamboo & Organic Cotton Muslin is supplied unwashed.

We recommend adding your crochet edging before washing. We've found that the little hemstitched holes are at their crispest and most distinct before washing, making them much easier to see and work into.

After your crochet is complete, the finished piece can be gently washed. As with natural woven fabrics, you may notice the muslin soften, relax and develop a slightly less crisp appearance after its first wash. Some shrinkage may also occur.

This change is part of the character of the fabric – that beautifully smooth new muslin gradually becomes a softer, more relaxed baby cloth with use and washing.

Made to Become Something Special

We love providing the foundation, but the part that makes these muslins truly special is what you add to them.

Choose traditional white, complement the natural muslin with cream or ecru, add a soft baby colour, or create an elaborate heirloom border. The hemstitched edge gives you a beautiful blank canvas for making something entirely your own.

A little wash cloth might become a sweet afternoon project. A large swaddle with an intricate crochet border could become a treasured new-baby gift that is kept long after baby has outgrown it.
